It seems to me that, like Christ, we are commanded to die in different ways. As the bible says, we are to die to sin, the world, and even our own desires. I think that choosing the India trip over a more enjoyment oriented spring break is one small way of dying to self so that we can live for Christ.

Thank you for your thoughts. I live in India, in Bangalore, Karnataka. We are living here for one year while on sabbatical leave as Canadian teachers. Thank you for taking the time to expose young lives to the realities of the world - and for mentoring them in true service to Jesus by serving the least, lost, lonely, unloved. I strive to understand the great contrasts and diversity in India. I long to be more effective in serving Jesus where I live right here, right now - where rich binding poor is seen as "normal" and tent cities are located next door to homes of wealthy - with disconnect between the two groups. I need to understand this dichotomy as Jesus would and act as His disciple - full of love and compassion rather than complacency.
